Recalling his Covid-19 lockdown days, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I am a huge film buff so during lockdown, I mostly binge-watched a lot. I also made two films during that time – Babli Bouncer and India Lockdown. I connected with a lot of people.
The trailer relives the early March 2020 days, as everyone tried to grasp the ‘new normal’. The empty roads, people masked and authorities in PPE kits, the visuals seem like watching your worst dreams come alive.
Through the trailer, Bhandarkar touches upon the varied emotions as the four narratives move ahead parallelly. The horrifying visuals of migrant workers, including their young children walking on roads like cattle, continue to haunt us.

Commenting on the occasion, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “Lockdown was a tough phase for many as people struggled to make ends meet and that gave seed to a thought to make a film on people affected by the lockdown.

Both the lockdowns were a different experience for me. India Lockdown was shot during the latter part of the lockdown. It was great to depict on screen what we really saw and to derive from society what turmoil they went through.
When asked what he looks for when he chooses the cast of his films, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I look what would best suit the character. My characters determine whom I want to cast in the film, and how they will look.”
Then only I start the casting. I am not a proposal filmmaker. I make films on different subjects. I call myself an experimental filmmaker and that’s why my films are a commercial success. I make films because I am a film buff and I need to tell stories.

A migrant worker pair, played by Prateik Babbar and Sai Tamhankar, are left jobless during the lockdown. They must trek back to their hometown because they have no other way to get there and encounter further difficulties along the route.
Shweta Basu Prasad portrays a Kamathipura-based sex worker who struggles to make ends meet while engaging in social distancing.
While Prakash Belawadi portrays a father who is stranded in a different city during a pivotal high point in his daughter’s life, Ahana Kumra plays a pilot who, for the first time, experiences downtime, forcing her to reflect.
